Applied Computing

This course provides you with an opportunity to study all aspects of application development and deployment. Students will explore the core knowledge, skills and understanding that underpin computer programming. They will also develop skills in computational thinking and programming skills, as well as developing an understanding of how these skills are used to solve problems.

What does the course involve?

  • Programming Fundamentals: incorporating number systems, data and logic, program and data structures, problem solving and algorithms and issues relating to developing computer programs.
  • Network Security and Encryption: Challenges, and main threats to network security. Encryption methods and techniques employed to keep networks secure.
  • Practical Programming: Task based project to exam board set brief. Explore principles of computing related to software development. Using computational thinking; Manage the development of a software solution. Language is Python and we will either use Visual Studio or Visual Studio Code.
  • Fundamental Concepts of Human Computer Interaction (HCI): Develop a proposal for HCI and interface to meet a given brief.

Please note: Core Maths must be studied alongside this course, unless you are also studying Mathematics or Statistics.
