Engineering
Engineering is a vocational course that helps prepare you for either a degree in Engineering or moving straight into the workplace.
Engineering Cambridge Technical Extended Certificate Equivalent to one A Level
It is important to note that this is not a hands-on engineering course but an academic course that involves studying the mathematics and science that underpins engineering.
There is a small amount of practical work involved throughout the course. There are also two major pieces of written coursework which are completed in the second year.

What does the course involve?
This course contains a mixture of taught content which is assessed via a written exam at the end of Year 1 and another in January of Year 2, and coursework. The exams cover the maths and physics that form the foundation of engineering at higher levels and some material science. They are targeted to be at A Level above GCSE but not as in depth as a maths or physics A Level.
The coursework will be a mixture of your own research, engineering and CAD drawings, and some practical work. It covers the areas that are most relevant to life as an engineer, either as a graduate or via an apprenticeship. It considers material choice, environmental considerations, product design, working with clients as well as technical aspects such as accurate engineering drawings and use of CAD software.
Please note: Core Maths must be studied alongside this course, unless you are also studying Mathematics or Statistics.

Career path
This course can lead you into higher education, such as a degree or a foundation degree in Engineering, or into an apprenticeship or employment.
What I like best about Engineering is that the tutor is always there to help you and there are always resources there ready for you to use – and the topic itself is very interesting.
