The Diploma in Sporting Excellence (DiSE) programme is run in partnership with the Women Player Development Group.
BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Sporting Excellence
Equivalent to one A Level
The DiSE is a qualification specifically designed for learners with an opportunity to be assessed on their ability to work towards and fulfil the role and requirements of an elite sports performer.
The purpose of the DiSE is to confirm competence within the elite sports arena, specifically the training environment of the learner’s chosen sport, for both the practical and theoretical elements underpinned by a range of competency-based evidence. DISE recruits players of potential to achieve the stated successful outcomes.




What does the course involve?
Students will be timetabled for a minimum of 12 hours of rugby related activity and be required to follow a personal rugby development programme. The DiSE will include the following aspects:
Overview
- Season Aims & Objectives
- Minimum of 1200 playing minutes (RFU Guidelines)
- Detailed IDP
- Quarterly Reviews carried out & documented
Strength/Conditioning Recovery
- Understanding all principles
- Understanding of Micro & Macro phases of the season
- Understanding of Prehab requirements and Balance proprioception applications
- Recovery Strategies
- Rehabilitation strategies and support through long periods of recovery
Technical & Tactical Individual positional
- Game understanding – Analysing of own and opposition game plans
- Study into own choice i.e. “importance of momentum swings” – “possession / territory” studies
- IDP requirement understanding – Aiming at making ‘self-reliant’ players
- Weekly individual (1:1) review
- Each athlete to build highlight CV – Video

Entry Requirements
As a minimum you will need:
- Grade 4 or C in GCSE English.
- Grade 4 or C in GCSE Mathematics.
- Grade 4 or C in GCSE Science or BTEC First/Certificate/Diploma in a related subject with Merit, or above, or equivalent.
This course is in partnership with Women Player Development Group, students must therefore be female.
Players should be being tracked by the Centre of Excellence and be of an appropriate ability level to progress through to the women’s game and potentially to the elite performance level. You must also be English qualified.
Students must be able to complete both their full-time studies along with the high level of commitment to sport and all aspects of the DiSE elements.

Trips
Field trips are arranged as part of the course and include trips to the Worcester Sixways Stadium.
Career path
The DiSE will prepare students to progress to a career as an Elite Rugby Player. Our dedicated and specialist staff will work with the student to discuss options on how they transition through the pathway and provide support for the students to decide what is best for them.
