Hereford Sixth Form College has over 2000 full-time 16-19 students and an excellent reputation for its results and extra-curricular provision.  Rated Ofsted outstanding in 2007 and again in 2023, the College consistently achieves one of the highest Advanced Level points scores per entry of over 100 SFC’s nationally and has outstanding value added results as measured by both the ALIS and ALPS systems.

The Heart of Mercia Multi-Academy Trust (MAT), formed on 1 April 2019, delivers education in the West Midlands; Hereford Sixth Form College is a part of this Trust.  The MAT has an annual budget of £50m and serves the needs of 8,500 students across the region.

Salary: Support staff salary scale Point 12–18 (currently £28,408 - £34,033 per annum FTE) giving a pro-rata salary of £23,165 - £27,752 for TTO + 5 extra days / £23,458 - £28,104 for TTO + 5 extra days for over 5 years’ service

We are seeking a proactive HR Advisor to deliver an effective HR support to Hereford Sixth Form College, as well as across our Multi Academy Trust. You will be the first point of contact at HSFC for all HR queries, assist with employee relations cases, and provide high-quality information and advice to staff and managers on HR matters.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high quality information and advice to staff and managers, to include responding and corresponding to staff regarding HR matters and queries.
  • Prepare employment contracts, appointment letters, change of contract letters and other HR documentation.
  • Responsible for the full recruitment cycle for allocated vacancies to ensure the Trust attracts skilled and experienced staff and to ensure the Trust is fully compliant with safer recruitment practice. 
  • Enter pay claims and changes via the online payroll portal. Process any payroll changes and other payroll queries. Check monthly payroll, conduct regular HR system vs payroll report audits to ensure data accuracy, and deal with day-to-day payroll-related queries in liaison with the MAT Payroll Manager.
  • Lead on maternity, paternity, shared parental leave and flexible working procedures.
  • To assist the Trust HR Director in advising the leadership team in matters requiring HR expertise and assist in the maintenance and updating of HR policies and procedures.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of a new HR system and other new and ongoing HR projects across the Trust.

About You

To thrive in this role, you will need:

  • Previous HR experience, ideally within education or a similar sector.
  • Strong knowledge of HR policies, procedures, and employment law.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • The ability to work proactively and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Science Technician

Part Time (25 hours per week) / term time only / permanent

Salary:  Support Staff Scale Point:  6 - 8 (£24,575 - £25,330 per annum FTE) giving a pro-rata salary of £13,921 - £14,349 per annum

The Science Department offers A-level courses in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Environmental Science as well BTEC qualifications in Forensic Science/Applied Science and Engineering. There are currently three Science Technicians at the College, who work collaboratively to support the different departments.

We are looking for a part-time Science Technician to join our Science Department to assist in the provision of technical and administrative support for the A Level Biology and BTEC Forensic Science/Applied Science courses. As this course involves chemistry, biology and physics, we are looking for someone who can provide practical support in all three areas. 

The successful science technician will:

  • assist with, and manage, the science equipment in the science department
  • provide support in Biology, Chemistry and Physics areas
  • prepare equipment and apparatus before lessons in accordance with teacher requirements
  • assist pupils and teaching staff during practical classes including demonstration of skills, techniques and equipment, provision of advice etc, at an appropriate level

You MUST have:

  • Previous science education (e.g. degree in a related subject), and/or appropriate experience
  • A passion for science
  • A friendly and approachable personality
  • Experience of working in a learning environment
  • Excellent planning, administration and organisation skills
  • Enthusiasm and desire to support the teaching and learning of students
  • A commitment to professional development and training

Teacher of Psychology/Applied Psychology

Psychology and Applied Psychology are two of the larger departments in this highly successful Sixth Form College, with Applied Psychology receiving an Outstanding Grade within the recent Ofsted inspection. In Applied Psychology, there are currently 6 first year and 4 second year BTEC groups. In Psychology, there are currently 9 first year and 8 second year single BTEC Certificate groups. There are 2 groups of Psychology GCSE that are an important part of the successful Level 2 provision. Examination results in both subjects have been consistently excellent, both in raw and value-added terms.

Teachers in Psychology and Applied Psychology work closely together, following a common programme and using a variety of methods. These posts provide an excellent opportunity for suitably qualified persons to join an experienced team of Psychology and Applied Psychology teachers. The departments are well-resourced, and the use of IT is being developed. Emphasis is placed on providing a supportive working environment for teachers, liaising over schemes of work, and sharing good practice.

We are seeking newly qualified or experienced teachers of Psychology and Applied Psychology. A potential Head of Department role may also be available. Experience of teaching BTEC is not essential, but it would be beneficial. You should be committed, enthusiastic, and enjoy a challenge. You will be prepared to work hard within the team and be ambitious both on a personal level and for the department. The ability to motivate students, maintain standards, and be organised is vital. The Languages Department is vibrant, dynamic and offers a range of language courses, including French, Spanish and German.  Staff are committed to fostering a deep appreciation for languages and cultures by providing a stimulating learning environment where students develop their linguistic skills, cultural awareness and confidence in communication.  There is a strong emphasis on authentic materials, literature, film and real-world application of language skills.  The Department has a Language Lab for listening and pronunciation practice, interactive whiteboards and multi-media resources and Language Assistants who are native speakers.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and forward-thinking Teacher of French and a Teacher of Spanish to join our Languages Department. You will be a strong team player and be committed to a departmental ethos based on high quality teaching, excellent examination results, shared resources, and mutual support. You will have the ability to work with students and help them develop their ideas and give high quality feedback.
