HSFC Debate Society at the Rotary Competition

For the second year in a row, the HSFC Debates Society sent a team to the second round of the regional finals in the Rotary Competition. On Saturday, 8th February 2025, our team competed against top schools from the neighboring counties of Worcester, Monmouthshire, and Herefordshire.

The chosen debate topic was: "In times of crisis, this house supports the use of Political Nihilism." Tara F served as Chair, introducing the topic and speakers, while Theo K acted as the Proposer and JJ J as the Opposer. Speaking for a total of 15 minutes on stage, in front of a large audience of peers and adults, was a daunting challenge—especially against such strong competition.

With seven teams in contention, there could be only one winner. Although our team did not take first place, they represented HSFC with skill and confidence.

Founded 20 years ago, the Debate Society is the largest non-timetabled enrichment club at HSFC. It hosts a diverse range of events, from student-led debates to guest speakers from the arts, industry, science, and politics.

A recent partnership with the Hereford Rotary Club has been a significant addition, bringing valuable support from a respected international organization known for its social engagement.

We look forward to continuing this collaboration in the future!
