Getting "Financially Literate" at Hay Castle

Cryptocurrency session at Hay Castle
On the last week of the academic year, students from the Enterprise Department attended a Financial Literacy Seminar at Hay Castle. Hay Castle Trust hosted Financial Times Charity: Financial Literacy and Inclusion Campaign (FT FLIC,) which aims to promote awareness of how young people manage and utilise their finances.Based in London; they are pro-actively intending on reaching out of the South East to reach out to those further away. This was the first event of its kind at Hay Castle: and it certainly did not disappoint!
The first part of the day was a session called "How to look after your money'. It covered the difference between financial needs and wants, determining smart choices about managing money that align with needs, wants and future goals and finally examining how income from jobs is taxed and calculate how much is left to budget.
Students were treated to a generous and delicious buffet lunch in the impressively renovated interior of the Castle.
The second part of the day was a session on "Cryptocurrency". This is a grey area with potential high gains but one with high risk. The session covered the history and technological development, how it works, its risks and discussion on whether it will grow in the future.
FLIC Trainer and Head of Content Chantelle Clarke is a highly experienced teacher with a wealth of experience. Her charisma and clarity of message kept students captivated throughout the day. Knowledge is power and our students certainly came away having learned a lot.
Hay Castle Trust is a dynamic, forward-looking organisation driven by Trustees with a wealth of background talent from many industries, which provides a forum for Literature, Theatre, Art and History for the surrounding community.
